Who it's for

Controls engineers already working in Beckhoff projects (TwinCAT 3 XAE (TE1700)). This is an assistant inside that environment, not a second opinion you can paste into another brand's IDE.

Caveat / limitations

TE1700 TwinCAT 3 CoAgent for Engineering is the engineering product. Beckhoff says it is an MCP client with agents for PLC, I/O, HMI, and the Information System, and that customers can attach their own MCP servers. Models can be cloud (OpenAI, Anthropic, or others) or local for air-gapped use. Beckhoff says specialists review results before execution. A third-party roundup described market release as on request; confirm fulfillment with Beckhoff. The unofficial twincat-mcp project is a different piece of software.

Protocols

• IEC 61131-3The PLC programming-language standard: structured text, ladder, function block, and vendor dialects such as Siemens SCL and Rockwell structured text. This is a language family, not a field bus. A tool tagged here generates or explains controller code.
